Rules and Scoring

Because we respect the organizations that have helped build this sport, we have established a set of rules that are similar to the IBJJF and/or NAGA. In saying this, we also hope to simplify the point system by eliminating points for passing the guard and reducing the amount of advantages given.

Our goal is to bring you the best of competition in one tournament – submission only grappling accompanied with a competitive point system.

GI

  • Gi divisions will be scored
  • There are three possible ways to win: 1) Submission 2) Points 3) Ref Disqualification

NO-GI

    • NO-GI divisions will be submission only.
    • Advantages will be given for “close submission attempts”.
    • If nobody is submitted during the normal match period, the competitor with the most advantages will be declared the winner.

SCORING

The referee shall award points as shown in the table below.

4 Points 2 Points
Top Mount
Back Mount
Takedown
Sweep/Reversal
Side Control/Knee on Belly

Please note that the two highest scoring positions are the top and back mounted positions. Because the mount is considered by many to be the most superior position, you cannot earn more than 4 points in transitioning from top side control to top mount. Please see the following examples for more detailed explanation of how the matches will be scored.

  • Takedown plus side control = 4 points (2 for the takedown, 2 for side control)
  • Takedown, side control, top mount = 6 points (2 takedown, 2 side control, 2 top mount) *Attaining the top mounted position is worth 4 points total
  • Takedown to top mounted position = 6 points (2 takedown, 4 for top mount)

Contestants may earn additional points for attaining position from transitioning from the front to the back or vice versa. For example:

  • Top mount to back mount = 8 points (4 top mount, 4 back mount)
  • Side control to back mount = 6 points (2 side control, 4 back mount)

*It should be noted that in an effort to stop the “racking up” of points, a competitor cannot attain multiple sets of positional points unless they lose position fully. It should also be noted that being put into Half Guard does not constitute “losing position”.

ADVANTAGES

Advantages will only be given for close submission attempts. “Close submission attempt” meaning a submission that is applied in a nature that is close to submitting his/her opponent, thus requiring a significant amount of defense.
